Walk On Water

Hi folks,

I am an instructor at CSA and during a weekend class (3/5/2000) my students had the pleasure to watch a guy called "Jesus" walking on the Pacific Ocean (Departure: Marina Del Rey; Arrival: Australia) He had two kayak-like floating devices under his feet and a paddle in his hands. Because he was going to eat and sleep during his trip he was pulling a boat in which he could sleep and where he had some food stored. As he started off, he was directly facing the wind and because he was standing upright he did not have the chance to put a lot of force on the paddle blades. The only movement he did was drifting backwards. A camera team was on a power boat filming him, but most of them seemed to be having a hard time containing their laughter. Finally they unhooked the boat he was pulling and he walked out there on his own. I do not know if this story is sad or funny, but I thought it is interesting to watch.

Alex has now returned to Germany to continue his schooling and we all miss him.

Story Update:
"Jesus" claimed to have walked on pontons across the Atlantic. He did get half way to Catalina before aborting. We west coast sailors have always maintained the Pacific is more demanding than the Atlantic.
