OVERVIEW
OF CURRICULUM
California
Sailing Academy offers three progressive near coastal sailing
courses. CSA 1, 2 & 3 are taught on 22 to 30 foot sloops
with complete equipment, that are appropriate to the course
content. We start you out in 27 foot pure sailing boats,
sailing mostly inside the marina. This gives you the opportunity
to safely learn the basics of sailing without relying on
auxiliary power. In CSA 2, we introduce boats with engines
that are similar to the coastal sailboats you would likely
sail on your own.

These
vessels are excellent platforms for teaching subjects such
as heavy weather sailing and anchoring. You will have the
opportunity to sail a fully equipped inboard diesel sailboat
to practice your navigation skills in CSA 3. These courses
may be taken through the UCLA extension program, or directly
through our Academy in Marina del Rey, or on your own vessel.
Coastal,
Celestial and electronic navigation may be taken at any
time. We offer these pure navigation courses at the academy
or through UCLA extension.
Our
live-aboard offshore courses CSA 4, 5, 6, foreign cruising
and racing are taught in vessels of approximately 40 feet
in length. These courses are taught in our local waters
of Southern California including Catalina, and the magnificent
Channel Islands. In addition we offer some of these courses
in exciting foreign sailing grounds as our School Training
Sailboat continues sailing around the world.
All
of our courses are available in groups or private instruction,
weekday or weekend, on our boats or yours, for your convenience.
All
levels of the American Sailing Association (ASA) certifications,
at the student, instructor, and Instructor Evaluator level
are available through California Sailing Academy. |
